Thirty years ago in 1988, Brad Himes took the court at Delta High School as a member of the varsity basketball team for the final time.

On Feb. 7, Himes, now a physical education teacher at Delta, will get the chance to hit the court again, this time as a member of the Delta Legends team that will compete against the Harlem Wizards in a fundraiser for the Del-Com Foundation.

“There is no substitute to running out on the floor,” Himes said. “Friday and Saturday nights were special.”

Parts of the game are scripted, but “it is still fun to get out there and play,” Himes said.

Himes said the Harlem Wizards players are super athletic and are impressive to watch.

“As any competitor out there knows, you don’t want to embarrass yourself,” Himes said.

He hopes to be able to drain a couple three’s and get a few shots in the post.

Health teacher and baseball coach Seth Paul also is among the players. “My goal is to not get dunked on,” Paul said. Fifteen years ago Paul took the court at the county basketball tournament playing for the Cowan Blackhawks.

“It will be fun to get back on the court where  the county tournament was,” Paul said.

Now he takes the court against the Harlem Wizards where he hopes to entertain the people who come to watch.

Retired DHS basketball coach Paul Keller will again coach the Legends.  Other players include David Bratton, Brian Brewer, Shane Conley, Janelle Davis, current DHS boys' basketball coach Mark Detweiler, Adrianne Henderson, current DHS girls' basketball coach Andy Lewman, Lucas Manor, Rick Painter, Preston Phillips, Travis Richey, former Indiana All-Star Rob Robbins, Kasin Spay, Shannon Smith, and Megan Walton. Also participating will be NASH FM radio personalities Colin Matthews and Anna Marie.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. on Feb. 7, with the game scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m.
The event is a fundraiser for the DelCom Foundation, which provides money for teacher grants and student scholarships.
General admission tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for students in advance. (Prices go up to $12 and $9 at the door, so buy in advance!)
Tickets can be ordered online by visiting this Tickets Link and clicking on "Schedule and Tickets."
A special "Courtside Plus" option is available this year.  For $25, the ticket will be courtside reserved seating, a 10-minute meet-and-greet session with 2-3 of the Wizards, a free team poster, and a $10 discount on Wizards replica jerseys.  (This deal is limited to only 50 tickets and is on a first-come, first-served basis.)
