An outstanding crowd of more than 130 freshmen attended the Freshmen Mentors Kickoff event on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at Delta High School.

They were greeted by about 55 of our upperclassmen Mentors. Under the direction of the Mentors, the freshmen watched a video of highlights from last school year, toured the building and tested their lockers, and played fun games in the gymnasiums.

In addition, they listened to advice from Principal Mr. Chris Conley, Mentors sponsor Mr. Tim Cleland, and Mentors president Tannon Dishman, a senior.

Chick-fil-A of Muncie provided free lunch for all of the freshmen and Mentors to conclude the 2.5-hour kickoff event.

The Freshmen Mentors program is a part of the Chick-fil-A Leadershio Academy at Delta High School. The goal is to make the transition to high school easier for incoming freshmen.

Each Mentor will be paired with 3 or 4 freshmen throughout the school year to provide advice and to be a resource when needed. On the first day of school on
Monday, Aug. 6, the Mentors will wear their yellow Mentors shirts to be highly visible for freshmen who have questions.
